WB GROUP and Hanwha Ocean agreement in the area of maritime solutions and the Orka program
On September 3, during the largest defence event in Poland, the 32nd International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, WB GROUP signed an agreement with the Korean company Hanwha Ocean to strengthen cooperation in the field of maritime solutions, including within the framework of the “Orka” submarine procurement program for the Polish Navy.
Adam Bartosiewicz, Vice President of WB GROUP, and Steve Jeong, Vice President of Hanwha Ocean signed the cooperation agreement. It covers a broad scope of collaboration in military maritime solutions, including a comprehensive framework approach to the construction and support processes for submarine operations within the Orka program.
“This agreement paves the way for strengthening our partnership with the Polish industry. Hanwha Ocean expects WB GROUP companies to become key allies in creating a Polish support system for the Orka submarines,” said Steve Jeong, Vice President of Hanwha Ocean.
“The signed agreement highlights the growing expertise of WB GROUP companies in maritime systems. It also confirms the highest quality of composite technologies produced by WB Centrum Kompozytów in Czechowice-Dziedzice, which can be applied to advanced projects such as submarines,” stated Adam Bartosiewicz, Vice President of WB GROUP.
Based on the signed document, the companies will define the scope of cooperation in mutual areas of interest, including maritime solutions as well as processes for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of units in the Orka program.
The agreement is intended to serve as a foundation for concluding further contracts in maritime projects, specifically in areas related to the construction processes and operational support of submarines. The cooperation also includes the field of composite materials in partnership with WB Centrum Kompozytów, WB GROUP’s competence centre for composite materials.
The ceremony was attended not only by representatives of WB GROUP (including WB Electronics and WB Centrum Kompozytów) but also by Hanwha Ocean’s Korean partners involved in the development of KSS-III submarines. These submarines are currently in service with the Republic of Korea Navy.
