During the 32th International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, WB GROUP and Leonardo signed a letter of intent to jointly explore opportunities and prospects for the defense sector. The partners intend to jointly develop and seek business opportunities for tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, swarm operations and loitering munitions.
As part of their cooperation, GRUPA WB and Leonardo intend to develop advanced development projects and seek business opportunities in Poland and on international markets in the areas of light and medium tactical unmanned reconnaissance and strike systems.
The signed document will allow the entities to undertake joint initiatives in the area of industrial cooperation, based on autonomous air platforms, systems integrated with artificial intelligence and other advanced solutions that meet the needs of the modern, constantly changing battlefield.
The cooperation is to be based on the use of knowledge, competences and experience of WB GROUP and Leonardo in the development of specialist military electronics, reconnaissance and strike systems capable of operating in an integrated combat environment, which allows for multi-domain operations. Joint initiatives are to be based on the established presence of partner entities in Poland, within the framework of GRUPA WB activities and support from Leonardo Poland.
“Defence and security requirements are constantly evolving, and the first condition for strengthening European competences and capabilities in this area is the operation of an innovative industry. Our portfolio is constantly changing, driven by breakthrough inventions and the rapid introduction of advanced solutions for defence and security, in line with our strategy, and unmanned systems and technologies are an integral part of this,” said Lorenzo Mariani, Co-CEO of Leonardo.
“We believe that through synergy, technically and cost-effective solutions can be created, distinguished by new capabilities, to meet the needs of an integrated, multi-domain battlefield, providing increased situational awareness and operational effectiveness. This cooperation also confirms our commitment to Poland in terms of defence and security capabilities and industrial development,” added Lorenzo Mariani.
“The agreement signed today will allow GROUP WB and Leonardo to analyse how both entities can combine their complementary capabilities and experience in the areas of unmanned systems and artificial intelligence. The aim is to develop advanced and effective light and medium tactical reconnaissance platforms and low-cost strike solutions,” said Piotr Wojciechowski, CEO of GROUP WB.
“The new systems will be able to be used for a wide range of applications in environments with strong electronic warfare impact, in areas with disrupted or falsified GPS signals, in line with operational needs,” added Piotr Wojciechowski.
